SVJGA
PROGRAMS

Upcoming
Events:
1st Annual Golf Classic -- The California International Airshow will be
holding their 1st Annual Golf Classic on Thursday, September 23rd
at Salinas Golf and Country Club. All proceeds will benefit SVJGA. This
tournament will take the place of SVJGA’s Annual Fundraiser. Your entry fee of
$150 includes green fees, cart, range balls, tee prizes, dinner, awards, auction
and a whole lot of fun. We also have many Sponsor packages available. This is
our major fundraiser for the year and how we support our junior tournaments and
many other programs. Please keep this date open. Click here
for more information.
Would you like to play Poppy Hills, San Juan Oaks, Bayonet/Blackhorse, etc. for $5? All you need to do is renew your NCGA membership through SVJGA for $2. You can have an NCGA membership through more than one association. So, if you are a member at Salinas Fairways or Rancho Canada, you can also be a member with SVJGA. Only your membership through SVJGA, The First Tee of Monterey County or Santa Cruz County Jr. Golf will allow you the $5 rates. That is because we are members of the Youth on Course program that is offered through the NCGA. You must be a member of an association that is affiliated with Youth on Course to get the discount. For more info, please call Rusty at 444-0306.
Community
Service
Juniors that play in our Gold, Silver and Bronze tournaments are eligible to score keep at our Green level tournaments. This will accomplish three things.
1. You will earn community service hours which are now required by all high schools.
2. SVJGA looks very admirably on all scholarship applicants that have given back to our organization.
3. You will feel great about yourself by helping younger juniors to learn the game. Please check the tournament schedule and sign up to score keep for a Green level tournament.

Fee Program:
Rules
Clinics:
All SVJGA members must attend a rules clinic prior to participating in their first tournament and again when advancing to the next level of play. Note: There is not a required rules clinic when moving from 5 to 9 holes at the green level. Clinics will be free to attend for all SVJGA members. We will conduct rules clinics for each level throughout the year.
Rules clinics focus on learning to navigate The Rules of Golf to find correct procedures and/or apply the correct penalty. Clinics cover rules that are appropriate for the respective level of play.
--Green 5&9 – (1 Hour) Order of play, Tee Markers, Pace of Play, Striking the Ball, Flagstick, O.B., Bunker Rules, Etiquette – placing bag, quiet, putting line
--Bronze – (2.5 Hours) Using The Rules of Golf, Identifying Ball, Ball Unplayable, Dropping Procedure, Ball in Hazard-Prohibited Actions, Water Hazard, Lateral Water Hazard
--Silver – (3 Hours) Bronze Review, Using The Rules of Golf, Lost Ball, Through The Green, Loose Impediments, Obstructions, O.B., Provisional Ball, Ball Played as it Lies, Abnormal Ground Conditions
--Gold – (3 Hours) Bronze & Silver Review, Doubt as to Procedure, Advice, Indicating Line of Play, Waiving Rules, Players Responsibilities, Ball at Rest Moved, Ball in Motion Deflected or Stopped, Failure to Hole Out, Wrong Ball
At the end of Bronze, Silver and Gold rules clinics, a written test will be administered. Each level requires a minimum score on the test to achieve successful completion of the rules clinic. Members scoring less than the minimum score will be allowed to play at that level for 1 event, but must re-attend the rules clinic and successfully complete the test before playing more events at that level.
Students who feel they have already acquired knowledge of the rules for their specific level may be excused from the rules clinic by scoring 90% on the rules test for that level. The test will be administered during the first 30 minutes of each rules clinic. Members may only choose this option one time
At the beginning of Silver and Gold clinics, a 30 minute review of the previous level rules clinic will be administered to the group. It shall be a group discussion consisting of questions from the previous test, rules situations and questions.
Contact Rusty Stockton at 444-0306 for more information or to register for a clinic.
Please
pre-register for a clinic by calling 444-0306 or e-mail rusty@svjga.org.
All rules clinics will be held at Twin Creeks GC.
